All I can say is Thank God it’s Friday I think?  Which means turning a sour day into a good day regardless of the long week?  The last few Fridays has made we wonder why we thank goodness it’s Friday, it’s the downhill slide into Saturday, another bust your hump day to get to more tedious work on the week-end done.  If you’re like me the day starts out with what is for breakfast and please do not feed us box foods or frozen items that you throw in the toaster (will geez it works for the whole week, why not today?) Strip all the beds and put them in the washer, moving right along, walk around the house trying to figure out where I placed the toilet bowl brush.  Oh yes on the back porch when I took the puppy out for a potty break.  I’m back on track again; I was heading to the bathrooms to get them cleaned (where did I leave that toilet bowl brush again).

Bathrooms done, of to the kitchen, get the dishwasher loaded, get the puppy out of the dishwasher (fifth warning someone please get the puppy before she gets a hot bath).  No one moved so must be talking to me.  Kitchen done, check it of the list. Ah, the family surfaced must be time for me to fix lunch, although it was not in my plan for the day I guess I better get started.  Lunch done, it’s now about 2p.m. get all the beds laid, I’m missing a pillow case when and how did I lose one and where is the bottled water I had in my hand?   I found the water bottle and pillow case in the spare bedroom, beds done.  Vacuum the rooms sure would love to do that after I’ve already worked eight hours today(not).  Doors slam and open, great neighborhood kids wonder where their Mom’s are?

Hide and seek in my house really, really on my newly mopped floors while the puppy barks her head off for lack of attention.

Sort laundry and get the washer loaded while I get the mail from the mailbox and wrap up the day.  OMG it’s now 6:30p.m. all laundry put away nice and neat, where has the day gone to?  Take the puppy back out for a potty break, while I’m outside might as well  sweep the back porch because after all I live for Saturday’s.  Then I hear Mom, what’s for dinner?   Really, really, find the number to the pizza joint I’m wishing for Monday so I can really get a break.  Friday really no thank you makes me tired thinking of what Saturday brings.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears, What A Week! April 6, 2012

What a week I’m hungry and I’m beat.  Which brings me to this week’s short tale, Goldilocks and The Three Bears?  I often wonder how Goldilocks felt that day she was out in the forest and was brave enough to stumble upon a home not having any idea who lived there.  We do know the door was unlocked and there were a number of beds, when I think back to the story Goldy tried every bowl of porridge to see which one would suit her taste, after trying each chair to see which one was just the right for her to sit in.  It’s take a level of courage and persistence to try new things not knowing what the outcome could be.

Can you imagine a young lady not aware of what that day held; she only knew she needed to survive that day?  We know she had a good meal, sat in a decent chair and after all that, she took the time out to try each bed, the beds were not in her personal home so why would she not just settle on the first one and rest her weary soul.  AT the end of the day she did not take the road less travel, she took the road with an unknown outcome and she finally settled on the right bed for her afternoon nap.

What an adventure for Goldilocks,  just dared to be try something new, after reading this story again I had to think what would happen if I was willing to take more chances with this company?  Sure, some things I could possibly fail at but what happens if I try nothing at all and I simply just sit at the gate, waiting and still waiting for something to happen.  Today I commit our group to taking more chances not knowing what the future holds but the key is to try something new.

Sweet Dreamzz Family Affair at the Movies, Part Two! April 3, 2012

Oh good grief, there were six of us, going to the movies, why in the world did anyone not call ahead for the tickets, it made me wonder where we stored our brains that day.  Regardless we had a young man with us that was not taking no for an answer so, we decided that we would catch the next show which would not start until 10:40p.m.   This time, we purchased tickets ahead of time, we go back to another Sister’s house for a quick bite and honestly to get some rest, it was a long day of running around.  Well, at this point we need to make the best of it, because we will not go back home empty-handed.  Now keep in mind that the movie was over 2 hours long, which means it will be about 1:30a.m. before we would leave the movie theater.

Well the only thing left to do is have a family sleep over and honestly we could not have planned it any better.  Everyone chose a spot; the beds were covered with semi-disposable pillow cases and semi-disposable bed sheets.  With everyone settled in bed, the unexpected occurred.  It started raining what a great ending to a long day.  The next morning once everyone was up and around we stripped down the beds discarded the bedding, prepared a light breakfast and we all headed back home.  Although the day started out rough, we could not have asked for a better ending.

The release of Hunger Games was a family affair in our household.  We had planned for weeks to see this spring blockbuster movie together.  The plan was for everyone to meet at one place in order to check out the new Super Duper Fancy Theatre in town.  I was supposed to be at the spot by 3:15p.m. on Saturday, well for me it was going to be a 40 minute drive, I left the house fifteen minutes later than I was supposed to and still had to do a drive by at the credit union.  Now keep in mind two hours earlier I had talked to one of the sisters and although she was on my route she declined the ride.  Lucky me, so in my mind I was making a quick stop and then getting on the highway.

Just as I had hopped from one highway to another, my cell phone rings, it was the Sister that did not want a ride.  She had changed her mind, well of course why not; I found the closest exit and headed back into town.  We meet at the local Wal-mart, she climbs in the car and back on the highway we go, well at this point, and it was obvious we would miss our movie time.  So we get on the phone and at that time change the meeting time.  We decided that it was best if we stayed close to the theatre to get good seats.  By this time it’s 5:45 the movie was set to start at 6:15p.m with drinks in hand we arrived at the ticket counter eager for our adventure only to be informed that they were sold out.

Undeniably the best thing that happened to me two weeks ago.  Heading out to a business trip, I had everything in order, bags packed, tickets printed,  keys in hand, off we go.  One last thought, change the bed sheets, family would be doing me a huge favor by house sitting for a few days.  I always keep extra linen in the closet; however I have one family member that will not sleep anywhere but in her own bed.  I immediately panicked, purse and keys in hand head back into the house, I begin pulling out bed sheets then remembered that I have disposable bed sheets and pillow cases on hand.  To make everyone feel special, each bed was laid with a new set of Sweet Dreamzz semi-disposable bed sheets and pillow cases.  The cool thing that happened when I returned home four days later fatigued and homesick, I pulled the sheets and pillowcases off the beds and pitched them.  What a way to add a hint of convenience to my life.  All is well in my household again, now if I could just find someone to unpack our suit cases!

The Three Little Pigs Part Two! March 29, 2012

Not sure why each pig chose the path they did, I do know that this life is not a dress rehearsal.  We also know that in each instance when the pigs were not ready for life the wolf had a great meal.  When the wolf arrived at the third house made of stone, apparently he was not well prepared of the wee little pig.  The third pig took the time out to do the right thing the first time.

He did not do the right thing because someone was watching; he did the right thing because he took pride in building his home.  Regardless of what we do, as a parent, as an employee or as the owner of a company, it’s important to do the right thing the first time when no one is watching.  It’s important to make sure that product meets the standards that your customer expects, it’s important to go above and beyond when providing customer service.  It’s important to do the right the first time when no one is watching.

What happens when we take shortcuts and do not prepare to put forth our best the first time?  Well let’s ask the Three Little Pigs to see?  The story goes like this there were three little pigs; each one built some type of home or house.   The first little pig took the easy way out and built a house made of straws as you know the Wolf (life) happened, when he did not think out his house built of straw.  When he finished his new home he sat back and partied assuming he done a job well.

The second little pig on the other hand well he gave the big picture some thought after he saw what happened to his brother, he decided to put just a little bit more work into his house.  Picturing it, I think he placed his wee little foot out just a wee bit. He built his house of sticks and gave a great big sigh, poured his drink and then did the jig.  What a good feeling to have a house built of sticks, impressive he did just a little bit more than the next pig.

Now assuming the third pig had not gotten wind of what was going on but wanted to put his best foot forward, because remember this life is a race and there is no second place.  First place is the real winner.  The third pig built his house of bricks, now when I picture it, I wonder what made him think outside of the box, why was it important to build a house of stone?  Why did he want to do it right the first time?  When the home was complete why was he happy with playing the piano and singing?

I wonder how the Old Lady in the Shoe dealt with daily disappointments, can you imagine, just as soon as she changed one diaper  the next one was ready to be changed.  How did she multi-task her way to cooking for all one hundred kids,  keeping them clean while maintaining a clean house.  Some days I cannot manage my children and a career as a Working Mom.  I like to imagine that she had a help mate on the days that she could not handle the stress and but I also like to imagine that she probably knew it was more manageable to send the help mate to Hansel and Gretel’s cottage.  I also like to imagine that she kept a Iphone with pictures of the children in order to know all their names because after all after a long day I have to call my children, by kid# 1 and kid # 2.   I think at the end of the day she did what she could and then she allowed the next day to worry about itself, because after all no Women is an island.

What happens when the best laid plan does not come together?

Well depending on the person it could go really wrong.  But what I’ve learned is regardless of the plan here is my top ten list on how to deal with the disappointment.

1   Pout like nobody’s business and make sure you tell everyone about your foiled plan.
2   My favorite, flop around the floor like a fish out of water
3   Get a brown sack if you tend to hyper-ventilate start breathing now
4   Jog around the building if you have your running shoes on until you pass out
5   Chocolate, lots of it helps especially if you hate the taste of chocolate, then you have a valid reason to call  in sick the next day.
6   Caramel is my candy of choice, make sure you stock up on boxes of caramel to keep on hand for days like this.  If your son bans you from them, take his allowance away.
7   Call a girl-friend and vent for 30 minutes on speaker phone to disturb everyone around you
8   If you live in a cubicle start chunking paper clips at your next door cubicle neighbor
9   Boycott cooking for the week, that should make the kiddo’s happy
10 Leave the building for an hour, doubt if anyone will look for you

Now if all this does not work (all in fun of course), what seems to work for me is to do 1 thru 5, scream a little bit more, decide I’m going to get past it and then move onto Plan B or whatever plan is next.
