This is a cool idea, something to keep the kiddo’s entertained and engaged.

City In A Jar

I’ve gotten into the habit of displaying things on string, attached with little wooden pegs – the kind my mother used to hang the clothes to the drying line with when we were kids. It’s no secret that I love glitter, that being so, I added little sparkle to the wooden pegs.

{materials}

{apply a thin layer of mod podge to the wooden peg}

{press the wooden peg (mod podge side down) into the glitter}

{ta da! apply another thin layer of mod podge over the glitter for extra coating}

{use to display all your favorite pictures, papers, cards, etc!}

I’ve been striving for this for a few years, obviously I need to keep pressing forward.

Change The Code

Minimalism is a tool to rid yourself of life’s excess in favor of focusing on what’s important—so you can find happiness, fulfillment, and freedom.”

Minimalism for Beginners- You Have To Find Your “Why”

You are being drawn toward living a simpler life, and have recognized the stress and mess that years of accumulation has brought you.

You know that more stuff does not = more happiness and maybe there is another way to ‘do’ life outside the lines of more, more, more, bigger, bigger, bigger that have been drawn around us.

Understanding why we do something or why we want to create a better, more minimalist life helps us see the beauty in what we’ve created. We form an appreciation for our why. Without knowing why we’re headed where we are, we cannot truly embrace the process or idea of simple living.

You could make a list of all…

Should I iron my fabric before starting this sewing project?  Normally I would say no because I have a pretty good handle on how fabrics react to heat.  Going back to the first sentence well let’s rephrase it in this way. It’s always a good idea to test the heat limits of your fabric especially when combining it with other fabrics. What may seem to work with normal heat may not work when the handle on the iron or the heat gets turned up a few notches.  When working with a swatch of fabric that the dress-maker intends on using as a lining, cut out a small sample and test it on low heat and then again on high heat.

 It all seems like a no brainer, but this week I had the pleasure of unsewing a jacket twice the first time the color combinations were not working I will take the responsibility for not thinking outside of the box on that.  The second time, well I was distracted, I was completely done and thought I was going to iron out the seams and trim the ends.  About that time I smelled something burning, I accidentally placed the iron on my lining and for some reason the combination of fabrics were not compatible.  Unfortunately it meant going back to the sewing table removing the seams, find a better piece of fabric for my lining and then try it again for the third time.

It seems cliche to say that I love to travel. Who doesn’t, right? I suppose there are people who are not inclined to venture far from home. Maybe they are afraid to fly, worried about how they will fare in a place where they can’t speak the language or don’t like the unusual food. And international travel by air is dang expensive. Hmmm…I don’t use the word dang very often. Dang.

I didn’t leave the United States until I was in my 30s. Well, not entirely true if you count the border crossings for cheap booze in Mexico during my college days. Buying tequila 5 minutes from San Diego doesn’t qualify as travel.  It’s not that I didn’t want to travel–I was just always broke. I also was not raised in a family where international travel was part of what we did. We went to Yosemite. Strangely, now that…

These would be great in the bedroom consider changing the color combination.

what will i do next

I saw these just beautiful pillows on the Better Homes and Gardens site and just fell in love with them. I will have to make some of these! The colors in the picture seem so Springy but I am not sure that it will work with my furniture. Maybe I will try some different colors. The following sewing instructions are for one pillow. If you go to the Better Homes and Gardens link, the other pillow instructions are there.

Crafts Supplies:
Felt (yellow)
3/8-inch-wide velvet ribbon (green)
Fiberfill
Sewing Instructions:
Cut a strip of felt 9 inches wide and 18 inches long and hand-stitch two parallel lines close together through the center of the strip. Pull on the ends of each thread so felt strip gathers into a ruffle.
Make a 6-inch-wide ruffle in the same manner. Machine-stitch the 6-inch ruffle in the middle of the larger ruffle.
Cut two…
