I searched through the samples for the upcoming release and could not find anything red, so I pulled from the MangoTree line that is not due for release until later.  Our Pajama line is made of various kinds of fabric; the focus remains the same, fun, functional, innovative products.  This area of the line is personal and dear to me as my nightly goal is to discard the old pair of sweats with socks and slip instead into comfortable, colorful, fun, functional night wear available for the entire family.

The interesting thing about package design  in my opinion applies to just about everything around us, not necessarily limited to shape, color, textures or feel of a product.

Let me try to explain, last week I had Sushi with some friends and although I enjoyed my meal, there was a woman next to my party that was presented with a roll that made one’s mouth water.  The presentation of the meal according to my memory bank was outstanding.  This week my thought process although I have lunch prepared from the previous day was to of course have Sushi and not just any Sushi but the one that I saw the last week.

I have my wasabi, chopsticks, cold sprite and I’m ready to go, the first bite was okay, I try for a second bite then I realize that although it was covered in a soy wrap the exterior was made of dough?  What in the world makes that a Sushi roll; I blew my weekly lunch allowance on something that made me burp up avocado?  Poor choice on my behalf but again obviously presentation and design makes a major impact on everything around us.

I was in the grocery store a couple of months ago, I was shopping for personal products, as I was reaching for what I would normally buy, I noticed a nicely decorated petite box to my right.  It was pleasing to the eye but a different brand from what I normally buy, this peaked my interest so I thought I would try it.  I placed it in my shopping cart to buy, as I was checking out at the cash register, the cashier asked if I wanted the gum in my purse?  I looked puzzled because I did not recall purchasing any gum, I had to ask what gum, and she held up the small pretty box and announced so sorry this is not gum is it?  Something about the look was fascinating and committed me to that buy (keep in mind I tend to be brandy loyal).

Excited about my buy the next day I could not wait for the unveiling of that small pretty box.  Surprise, surprise, the contents was a bubble buster, it did not measure up to the brand I previously used in the plain box.  How disappointing was that, but a great reminder on how a great design can sell a product.

I read this quote on Forbes about Innovation loved it, had to share!

  • “Innovators can hold a situation in chaos for long periods of time without having to reach a resolution…won’t give up … have a long term commitment to their dream … innovators introduce a maximum of tension into the thinking process, unifying concepts that often appear to be opposed, solving problems which appear impossible.”

Go to bed at the same time every night. Choose a time when you normally feel tired, so that you don’t toss and turn. Try not to break this routine on weekends when it may be tempting to stay up late. If you want to change your bedtime, help your body adjust by making the change in small daily increments, such as 15 minutes earlier or later each day.

Revive Part Two! February 29, 2012

Revive, if you look all around you there is all kind of clothing, furniture, house furnishings, as examples that with a little bit of imagination can be re-created to look better than new again.  Sometime we get caught up with wanting something new, when something new is within reach.

I had a need for new curtains for the spare bedroom, but after shopping for several days could not find anything that would fit the bill.  Later that week the goal was to organize that same room.  I stumbled upon a storage container that had some oldies but good treats.  I found a skirt that I had not worn in years, it was colorful and the correct weight to work with.  Thank goodness my search was over and now the creative work begins,  I needed two panels approximately 44 x 96 inches, since the goal was to revive I had two non-woven white flat sheets which were perfect, I measured my old skirt to be sure it would do the trick.  At this point all I needed was my sewing machine and white thread

(1)  Cut the old article in the same direction as your flat sheet.

(2)  Measure, measure, measure, if all else fails always have an over-allowance, it’s easier to take things in.

(3)  Non-woven fabric does not fray but cotton will so finish the edges by using a zig zag pattern on the sewing machine.

(4)  Depending on how much color you want (A) either add another piece of fabric or (B) consider making the non-woven to woven fabric somewhat equally proportioned.

(5)  Place both pieces of fabric face down and together, pin them together facing each other.

(6)  Finish sewing the pinned area.

(7)  For the top or the section for the rod area fold your fabric over ½ inch pin and sew.

(8)  Time to hem the edges of your curtain to make it nice and pretty.

(9)  This project is complete!

My favorite Perfume of All Time! February 29, 2012

My favorite perfume is Lola by Marc Jacobs.  We were on vacation and we visited the Outlet Mall with one goal in mind to find a new bottle of perfume for me.  After wandering around the area in circles for hours and sampling several different designers my daughter spotted a bottle of perfume with a gorgeous top.  We asked the clerk to allow us to sample it and we immediately fell in love.  I immediately went out and purchased the lotion set and another bottle for when I could not find it when I got back home.
